Medard F. Fundi
Meddy was born on the western side of the Serengeti National Park and South of Lake Victoria in Tanzania. As a child he was inspired by one of his cousins who worked with the Tanzania Wildlife Parks. He joined the College of African Wildlife Management - Mweka for three years and graduated with the best student’s award. After his studies, he worked with the Government of Tanzania as a Warden in Mkomazi National Park (east of Mount Kilimanjaro) for about 5 years.
He joined Singita Lodges in the Serengeti and worked as a Professional Field Guide for 8 years. With Singita he was exposed to constant training in guiding and management which were conducted in the Serengeti, Tanzania, Limpopo National Park, Mozambique and Kruger National Park, South Africa. He was promoted as a Camp Manager and Field Guide for the Singita Explore camps in Tanzania. That promotion was derived not only from his knowledge and experience but also for his passion for nature that grew more each day.
In the course of his job, Meddy has been fortunate to witness incredible wildlife action in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, The Selous and Maasai-mara. Driven by his passion and curiosity in leading and sharing safari experiences with guests, he is now a co-founder/guide of My Safari Africa based in Arusha,Tanzania.
Eugen R. Shao
A professional safari guide, Eugen was born and raised close to Kilimanjaro and Amboseli National Parks so he has had the opportunity to witness nature’s most amazing events. He learnt from his late grandfather different methods of deterring animals from raiding local farms; that’s when his passion and love of nature emerged.
Eugen trained at The College of African Wildlife Management - Mweka; he then worked as a tutor at the National College of Tourism - Arusha, teaching animal behaviour, mammalogy, ornithology, entomology and botany. Following this, he joined Singita-Serengeti as a professional safari guide and worked there for over eight years. He has been fortunate to work in the Serengeti (World Heritage Site) which is one of the few remaining pristine areas on earth and home of the great migration of wildebeest and zebras.
Based in Arusha, Eugen is able to combine family life and work. Working in the African bush is his ever-growing passion and he loves nothing more than to share this and his culture with others. He believes that having the right people to lead your safari, who combine your safety and comfort with understanding the chemistry of Africa, will lead to the most memorable of experiences; “every Safari turns a new page in life”.
Raymond W. Mniko
Raymond is from the eastern shores of Lake Victoria, Tanzania. As a child, he was inspired by his grandfather’s stories of wildlife experiences in the Serengeti area back in the early 1900s, long before the Serengeti became a National Park.
Following in the steps of his brother, Mkombe, who was a professional field guide for over 16 years in East Africa, Ray visited some of the world’s natural wonders like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara and Maasai-mara. This experience led him to study at The College of African Wildlife Management - Mweka, enabling him to fulfil his childhood dream to become a safari guide.
Ray spent eight years working with Singita-Serengeti as a professional field guide and won an award for the ‘Best Safari Guide of the Year 2012/2013’.
As a co-founder of My Safari Africa, he loves to share his experiences, expertise and knowledge about animal tracking, walking safaris and ornithology with others whilst on safari. He is also a keen photographer. Being based in Arusha enables him to balance family life and work.
